gothic textura, rotunda, roman capital(monoline), filigree
As Textura is a typical Gothic script, I selected the renowned Gothic novel "Frankenstein" as the text to be represented. The black text portrays the scream of Dr. Frankenstein, while the brown text in the middle represents the scream of the monster. This is the source of the title, representing two people who will never comprehend each other. I envision Dr. Frankenstein as a female who created life with her own hands. The monster is male. The page layout displays an image of a mother and fetus. Emphasized words such as filthy and daemon in the text, and the filigree is inspired by the Italian manuscript Maestro dei Salteri di Bosco ai Frati. There are some red letters in the middle of the text. However, if you read it from top to bottom, you might notice something interesting. (I forgot about this trick and signed my name at the bottom, but that should be okay.)
This piece of work is incredibly intricate and detailed in terms of the materials that were used. It features the same type of gold leaf that is applied to two different bases, resulting in a unique appearance. Gesso and gum ammoniac were used as bases, while for the line filling, shell gold was used. Additionally, egg tempera was used on the decorated letter A.
Text
A flash of lightning illuminated the object, and discovered its shape plainly to me; its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect, more hideous than belongs to humanity, instantly informed that it was the wretch, the filthy daemon to whom I had given life.
middle sentence
Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay
To mold me man? Did I solicit thee
From darkness to promote me?
